Pete Cabrinha’s lifelong dedication to surfing and the arts is a journey which has gained him personal success and worldwide acclaim. International awards in Surfing (XXL Biggest Wave Award™), Windsurfing (WSMA World Champion), and Kitesurfing (IDEA™ Design Innovation Award) have put Pete into an exclusive list of world class water sports athletes.
His pioneering contributions in Windsurfing, Towsurfing, Kitesurfing, and Foilboarding have redefined what it is to be a surfer in the 21st century.
Pete’s extraordinary connection to the ocean has also fueled his parallel life as an artist. Throughout his professional water sports career Pete has pursued the arts with vigor and curiosity. He has paired his technical photography skills with his off center painting and collage techniques to capture the essence of a life lived in and out of the Hawaiian waters.
“Art for me has always been a seamless extension of what I’ve been doing as a surfer. The ocean provides me with a renewable source of inspiration that colors our basic way of life here in Hawaii. Your first windsurfing experience? "I learned how to windsurf through a friend named Brett Vollert in Kailua Hawaii. I was 15 years old at the time and surfing was my go-to sport. There was already a small community of dedicated windsurfers living in Kailua and the sport quickly swept me up in its fast moving path. As surfers we were constantly looking for ocean conditions with the lightest winds possible but that changed overnight the day that I learned to windsurf. From that point on we embraced the strong tradewinds and celebrated every storm that came our way.."

Favorite minute of windsurfing? "Its been a long sustained joy ride, filled with exciting challenges, hardships, big wins, great losses but mainly a the kind of satisfaction that comes with finding something that delivers an experience that is far bigger than the sum of its parts.."
What would you like to be remembered for in this sport? "As an everyday kid from a small island in the Pacific with an outsized curiosity and determination."
