DAVE KALAMA
Dave Kalama is probably the most short-tenured windsurfer in the WHOF, yet his impact on the sport and watersports in Hawaii is as monumental as on Mammoth Mountain where he was raised on as a ski racer. Hard work and dedication won him the Hard Rock hands down, in a time when windsurfing and wave competition was at its peak.

Maybe Dave was not always out for accolades, but he sure knew how to rack up achievements. The leader of the first pack to windsurf Jaws, he then branched out to innovate tow-in surfing, SUP waveriding, and surf foiling. A board shaper as well these days, he now runs his own company and coaches the world's best water athletes, as well as leads Kalama Surf Kamps.

Kalama is a descendant from a long line of noteworthy Hawaiian watermen; his grandfather brought outrigger canoe paddling to the mainland U.S., and his father Ilima Kalama was the 1962 world-champion surfer and a lifelong outrigger canoe paddler. Now, his son Austin is leading the charge of big wave foilers.

Darrell Wong did a great job of capturing the personalities of our sport. Lower left, pictured with one of his influencers, Mark Angulo, though along with Ian Boyd, all had their unique style and approach.

Dave is also in the Waterman's Hall of Fame. Not sure who took this wow photo.
